What does the name ‘Scarlet Tie’ mean?: In the Edwardian Era, when homosexuality was secretive, men were known to wear a red tie or red handkerchief to alert other gay men they were available.
Will it cost me anything to be published with Scarlet Tie?: If published with Scarlet Tie Books you will be asked to pay for your books' ISBN at a cost of $10.00 AUD, which is cheaper than purchasing an individual number outside of Scarlet Tie. Why do we ask people to pay for the ISBN? We purchase ISBN numbers in bulk and your book will be assigned a number that will list it as published by Scarlet Tie Books. Once a number has been assigned to a book, it cannot be used again, even if you decide to remove the book from our catalogue. As we have no contract, and keep no percentage of royalties, we ask you to pay for the ISBN to help cover the cost and to ensure we don't assign an ISBN to a book that may be removed from the catalogue a week later thereby rendering that ISBN void.
Will you provide the cover art for my book if I'm published with Scarlet Tie Books? Yes. Cover art will be provided by Scarlet Tie Designs & Zathyn Priest. We will also consider outside cover art, however we will refuse to use it should it not meet our standards. If you choose to use a cover artist outside of Scarlet Designs, you will incur all costs.
Do you only accept submissions from published authors?: We are currently closed to general submissions.
Do you only accept GLBT stories?: Yes.
Will you publish short fiction?: We will not publish stories with less than 7,500 words.
Will you publish graphic fiction?: Yes. Please keep in mind if you write/illustrate graphic fiction the images are as important as the text. Artwork must be excellent quality, sharp and clear. Pixelated and/or blurred images will not be accepted. We are closed to general submissions.
Will you only publish eBooks?: Mainly, yes. However we will consider providing an ISBN number to books already published with us should the author decide to make their book available in paperback also.
