Paul Wesley was born Pawel Tomasz Wasilewski on July 23, 1982. He is an actor, director, and producer. Growing up in the Marlboro Township, New Jersey, he attended the Christian Brothers Academy, Marlboro High School, and Lakewood Prep School. While a student at Lakewood Prep School, he played Max Nickerson on the soap opera Guiding Light. He briefly attended Rutgers University before leaving to pursue his acting career.
Paul’s television acting credits includes his roles in the TV mini-series American Dreams and Fallen. He has had recurring roles on the shows Cane, Army Wives, and 24. Since September 2009, Paul has played Stefan Salvatore on the show The Vampire Diaries, where he has directed and produced episodes of the show.
Paul has appeared in several movies, including The Late Bloomer, Beneath the Blue, and The Baytown Outlaws. In 2014, Paul played Gideon in Before I Disappear, which he also produced. The movie is an adaptation of the Oscar-winning short film Cufew, and received the SXSW Audience Award. Paul also appeared in Amira and Sam the same year.
In the play Cal in Camo, Paul received acclaim for his portrayal of Flynt. Time Out New York praised his performance for being “superbly vulnerable.” Other theater credits include his appearance in the play Sensitive Skin.
Recently, Paul partnered with Bob Levy, a former executive producer of The Vampire Diaries to found the production company Citizen Media. The company signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop projects for the studio. Citizen Media has also developed shows for Fox 21 TV Studios, Freeform, and ABC.
